# 4594 / Scarce 18th century large French Figural Knife Known As Pallois - Grenadier Of La Bastille


This knife bearing the effigy of a grenadier of la Bastille is one of the rare known political knives known as “of the conquerors of la Bastille". It is also famous under the name of Palloy or Pallois, because it is on the initiative of this soldier and entrepreneur of the French Republic that it was made, probably on numerous occasions at the end of the 18th and also probably by many different cutlers. This knife commemorate July 14th, 1789. This knife is a very original, perfectly conceived piece, with its own character. The tortoise shell and the ivory of the handle suit each other perfectly nicely. The knife measures a large 14,5 cm folded which is a rare size for such knives. The condition are very good mainly considering age and type. The blade is a little bit down in shape due to use and time it lock up tightly when opened. The delicate tortoise shell has only two tiny bug bites which are nevertheless absolutely unobtrusive. Two tiny pieces of ivory missing on one shoe and tiny hair crack lines on one leg and on the upper front side of the hat. The details are gorgeous.. Handle with care. PRICE UPON REQUEST
